Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety is ancient, with its historical homeland considered to be the Jura region in France. It presumably arrived in Spain, particularly in Asturias and Galicia, in the 11th century. It is a wine variety intended for the production of red wines characterized by elegance, good structure, intense aroma of wild berries, and spicy notes.

The plant belongs to the early maturity group and is well-adapted to a cool, maritime climate. In the conditions of Asturias, it is often cultivated on steep slopes with slate soils, which help regulate the vine vigor. Wines from this variety possess a deep cherry-red color and notable acidity, the level of which can vary depending on the time of harvest.
