Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety is of Italian origin and is historically associated with the provinces of Como and Lecco. The name is presumably due to the greenish hue of the berries. The bunches are characterized by compactness and good adaptability to mountain and foothill soils.

Due to limited planting areas, varietal wines are rare. The grape is more often used in blends, where it imparts high natural acidity, floral, and mineral notes to the wines.

The variety should be distinguished from the French grape Verdesse, which has a different origin, as well as from olive varieties with a similar name.
