Willow productivity is defined as the volume of accumulated above-ground woody biomass per unit area per rotation cycle. This indicator serves as a key criterion for clone selection and evaluating the efficiency of energy plantations.

Productivity is measured in tonnes of dry matter per hectare per year, tonnes of total fresh mass, or cubic meters per hectare. Biometric indicators, such as plant height, shoot diameter, and stand density, as well as mathematical modeling methods, are used to assess yields.
Under production conditions, dry wood productivity varies from 2.8 to 15 tonnes per hectare annually, depending on the clone and site conditions. Total biomass over a 5-year cycle can range from 20 to 130 tonnes per hectare, provided there is an adequate level of soil moisture.
This trait is directly dependent on water consumption intensity, planting density, and the plants' ability to regenerate vegetatively after cutting. Optimizing mineral nutrition and selecting high-yielding clones significantly increase biomass yield compared to wild-growing forms.
