Plum Pox of Apricot

Prunus armeniaca L.

A dangerous quarantine viral disease of apricot caused by Plum pox virus (PPV), leading to fruit deformation and premature crop drop.

In the reference 145 varieties crop Apricot, where this is mentioned in the description.

The pathogen is the potyvirus Plum pox virus (PPV), represented by several strains, the most aggressive of which is considered to be PPV-M. On apricot leaves, the virus manifests as chlorotic spots, rings, stripes, or vein clearing, which become especially noticeable when viewed against the light.

Fruit infection is accompanied by necrotic spots, deformation, and changes in the flesh structure, which takes on a brown or reddish hue and may become permeated with gum. Infected fruits become smaller, lose their taste, ripen prematurely, and drop en masse several weeks before harvest. Symptoms become noticeable 3–4 weeks after flowering, although at high air temperatures their manifestation may be masked.
