Variety traits
Prunus domestica L.
Plum vigor is a complex of biometric indicators characterizing tree development, including height, crown parameters, trunk volume, and vegetative activity.
In the reference 184 varieties crop European plum, where this is mentioned in the description.
To assess plum vigor, indicators such as tree height, trunk circumference, crown projection and volume, and annual shoot growth are used. Vigorous rootstocks result in a height of 4.3–5 m or more, while dwarfing rootstocks allow keeping it within 2.2–3.7 m. Trees with a height of up to 2.5 m are considered dwarfing.
Vegetative activity is determined by the length of the annual shoot growth, which in plums can reach 1.5–2 m. A growth of 35–40 cm is considered optimal for the productive period; indicators of less than 15 cm indicate the need for rejuvenation. Growth intensity determines the planting scheme, labor costs for pruning, and the nutrient management regime.
