Variety traits
Dry matter is the sum of all plant components excluding water, determining its nutritional value, keeping quality, and actual yield. This indicator is used as a marker to assess maturity stage and compare the productivity of different varieties.
Mentioned in descriptions 10 325 varieties reference book.
Dry matter represents the mass of all proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and mineral components of a plant after the removal of moisture. For an agronomist, this parameter is a fundamental characteristic that determines the feed value of a crop, harvest timing, and the subsequent keeping quality of the yield.
Dry matter content strongly depends on the type of crop, its growth stage, and physiological state. The indicator is measured as a percentage of the total mass and serves as an important marker when evaluating the resistance of varieties to abiotic stresses, such as drought or frost.
In variety trials, dry matter is used to standardize yield data, allowing for an objective comparison of varieties without distortions caused by differences in tissue hydration. The dry matter level is assessed either by the gravimetric drying method to constant weight or by rapid spectroscopy methods.
Selection based on the description text, not official resistance ratings: such data is not available in registers. Mention indicates that the trait is discussed in the variety's sources; see the variety's profile for details on what is specifically stated.
