The Colt rootstock is an interspecific hybrid of sweet cherry (Prunus avium) and sour cherry (Prunus pseudocerasus). It is classified as a clonal rootstock intended for growing sweet and sour cherries.
Trees on this rootstock are characterized as semi-vigorous, being somewhat smaller than plants on seedling rootstocks. The rootstock has good compatibility with most sweet cherry varieties and is adapted to heavy and wet soils.
The disadvantages of the rootstock include sensitivity to drought, low winter hardiness of the root system under Russian conditions, and susceptibility to crown gall disease (Agrobacterium tumefaciens).
