The cultivar is traditional for Apulia and is also known by the names Ogliarola Salentina or Salentina. The trees belong to a landrace formed under the influence of the climatic conditions of the Salento region.

The oil obtained from the fruits of this cultivar has an intense yellow color, a medium fruity aroma, and a mild taste with light bitter and spicy notes. The product is used both in blends and as a monovarietal oil.

The cultivar is considered susceptible to the bacterium Xylella fastidiosa, which causes olive quick decline syndrome. Historically, it has also been subject to the disease known as brusca.
