The tree is characterized by vigorous development and a dense canopy reaching 5 meters in height. The leaves are narrow-lanceolate, leathery, dark green on the top and silvery-gray on the bottom. The fruits have an average weight of 2.5–3.2 g, their color at maturity changes from intense green to nearly black, and the shape is distinguished by the presence of a characteristic pointed tip.
The variety is early-bearing and produces a stable yield, with harvesting occurring in November–December. The plant is cold-hardy (down to -15°C), however, it is sensitive to Verticillium wilt and leaf spot. PICUAL is considered self-fertile, but cross-pollination contributes to an increase in yield. Due to the characteristics of the flesh and thin skin, the fruits are rarely used as table olives, being primarily raw material for oil production.
