The fruits of the Kleine Waalse variety possess characteristics similar to the Schattenmorelle variety, however, they are distinguished by earlier ripening periods. In some historical inventory lists, the variety name was also recorded in lists of sweet cherries, which points to potential nomenclature confusion.
The variety is considered moderately adapted to the conditions of the Ardennes. In agronomic practice, monitoring of the trees for the appearance of symptoms of fruit tree canker, caused by the pathogen Neonectria ditissima, is required.
