The Stefaniya variety was developed at the Institute of Agriculture in the city of Kyustendil, Bulgaria. In agronomic publications, this variety is classified exclusively as a sweet cherry, and information regarding its classification as a sour cherry is erroneous.
The variety belongs to the most valuable varieties of Bulgarian breeding and is distinguished by very large fruit size. It is recognized as promising for cultivation due to its agronomic qualities.
