The variety is a traditional dessert winter pear variety, bred in France. In pomological sources, it is known under the names Angoulemská, Herzogin von Angouleme, Angoulemka and Angulemka.

Fruits of this variety are characterized by large and very large sizes, with their surface often being knobby. The average fruit mass varies from 230 to 600 grams.
