The variety is an old cultivar selected by generations of farmers in the Piedmont region and is not the result of modern breeding. It is currently being studied by scientific institutes as part of the historical and cultural heritage.
The fruits of the variety are traditionally used for culinary processing, including boiling and baking, as they are usually inferior to dessert varieties in taste quality. Trees of this variety can reach significant sizes and are found as century-old specimens.
