The Elia rootstock was obtained at the Research Institute of Horticulture in Skierniewice as part of breeding work on studying forms of Pyrus caucasica. This material belongs to a group of rootstocks used for the propagation of pear seedlings.
Scientific research on this object focuses on studying the physiological characteristics of seeds, such as dormancy period and germination, as well as evaluating the quality of seedlings. Information on the consumer qualities of the fruit is absent, as the crop is not a varietal pear for fruit production.
