The variety is native to the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula. It is genetically presumed to be related to the Albariño and Azal Tinto varieties. Clusters and berries are small; berries have a round shape and thick skin.
The plant is difficult to cultivate and requires meticulous care due to its susceptibility to downy mildew and powdery mildew. The variety is late-maturing; harvest usually takes place in October.
A wine variety used for the production of varietal wines and blends. Wines are characterized by high acidity, an alcohol content of 13–14%, and an aromatic profile with notes of citrus, stone fruits, white flowers, and mineral shades.
