The variety is classified as a wine grape, traditionally used for the production of base wines and brandy. With proper vinification, it allows for the production of dry white wines, and in the Canary Islands, it is used primarily as a blending component.

The plant possesses high resistance to drought and hot climatic conditions, which ensures its widespread distribution in the arid regions of Spain. In terms of product characteristics, the variety is distinguished by low acidity and color content.

Genetically, the variety is a descendant of the Hebén variety. In official catalogs, it is listed under the primary name Airén, while Burrablanca and Burra Blanca are merely regional synonyms.
