The variety is a wine grape and belongs to the species Vitis vinifera. The berries of the variety are small or medium in size. The variety is characterized by a relatively late ripening period and high productivity. For full ripening, the plants require good lighting and prolonged exposure to sunlight.

Wines made from this variety possess fullness, good structure, and are suitable for aging in oak barrels. The variety is considered rare and autochthonous to Italy, with main plantings concentrated in Piedmont; it is also found in Tuscany. It is used both as a varietal wine and as part of blends.
