The variety is the result of a spontaneous genetic mutation of the Pinot noir variety and originates from the region between Lake Geneva and the Rhône valley. The plant is characterized by early bud burst and early fruit ripening.
The clusters of the variety are usually compact, the berries have thin skin and turn a greenish-yellow or pinkish-white shade when ripe. The variety is relatively resistant to cold, however, it is susceptible to fungal diseases.
The grape has a technical purpose. It is capable of accumulating a high sugar content with moderate acidity and is used for the production of a wide range of wines, including dry, sweet, and sparkling drinks with floral and fruity notes.
