The variety is intended for winemaking and is found in old vineyards in Portugal, particularly in the Beira Interior region. In official registers, it is listed as a white grape; however, due to folk names, there is a risk of confusion with other varieties or their forms, including the black grape Folha de Figueira Preta.

The exact origin of the variety is unknown, and morphological and agrotechnical data are limited. The variety has many synonyms, such as Dona Branca and Tortozon, which requires genetic confirmation when identifying specific samples.
