A mid-season ripening variety with early bud burst. It is characterized by high vigor and good adaptation to drought conditions, preferring calcareous-clay soils. It requires careful removal of excess shoots and proper pruning, as the buds on old wood are unfruitful.
Bunches are medium to large in size, branched, and cylindrical-conical. Berries are small or medium, spherical in shape, with thick skin and a color ranging from dark black to reddish-brown. Leaves are rounded, three-lobed, and slightly incised.
The plant is sensitive to powdery mildew and grey mold, and moderately susceptible to downy mildew and berry set issues (coulure). In winemaking, the variety is valued for its deep color and characteristic tannins, and it is often used in blends for the production of red and rosé wines.
