The variety belongs to the species Vitis vinifera. Genetic analysis conducted in the early 21st century confirmed that it is an independent variety, refuting hypotheses regarding its kinship with the red grape Forcallat tinta.

In some regions, there is confusion in nomenclature, which leads to the name Forcallat blanca being erroneously applied to other white varieties, such as Trepadell. Also, the list of synonyms for the variety may overlap with the names of the Airén or Colgadera varieties. Information on morphological traits and the level of disease resistance is extremely scarce due to the rarity and limited distribution area of the variety.
