The variety originates from the Greek region of Macedonia and is considered a natural hybrid of Parmak Cerven and Achladi. In addition to the primary name Opsimo Edessis, it is known by a multitude of synonyms, such as Opsimo d'Edessa, Karatzovitiko, Amasia, and Dopio.

This variety is late-maturing. Economically, it is used primarily as table grapes, but it is also used for the production of traditional Greek retsina, yielding wines with low acidity and alcohol content. The plant is characterized by sensitivity to downy mildew and gray mold.
