Bunches are medium-sized, weighing 250–300 g, conical in shape, and compact. Berries are medium to fairly large, slightly oval, dark blue in color with a waxy bloom. The flower is hermaphroditic. The variety exhibits high yield and the ability to adapt to sandy soils, which imparts a characteristic minerality to the wines.

The variety is sensitive to cold and frost, susceptible to powdery mildew, but possesses resistance to other fungal diseases and is tolerant to phylloxera. Wines made from it have a dark ruby color and aromas of cherry, raspberry, and red currant, and are often used in blends to increase acidity and astringency.
