Mid-season variety, the cycle from bud break to technical maturity lasts about 136 days. Leaves have three large and two small lobes. Clusters are dense, medium-sized; berries are also medium-sized, greenish-yellow with a slight waxy bloom.

The variety is demanding of conditions, susceptible to fungal diseases such as downy mildew, botrytis, and black rot, does not tolerate grafting onto American rootstocks well, and is sensitive to spring frosts. Average yield is 100–130 centners per hectare.

Intended for the production of base dry white wines with high acidity, as well as distillates and sparkling wines. Genetically, it is the result of crossing the Gouais blanc variety with an unknown variety. It has a number of synonyms, including Gros Plant, Picpoul, Dameret, and Bordelais.
