The variety belongs to the early grape varieties. The leaf is rounded, five-lobed, weakly or moderately dissected, with slight pubescence on the underside, and the petiolar sinus is open, narrow lyre-shaped. The bunches are small, cylindrical, and very dense. The berries are small, dark blue, and round or slightly oval in shape.
The variety is characterized by susceptibility to gray mold, anthracnose, wood pitting diseases, and phytoplasmosis, as well as low frost resistance. It is used primarily as a colorant for the production of dark-colored wines, which possess a less fruity taste compared to regular Gamay.
