The variety is an autochthon of Dalmatia, discovered in the area of the village of Smokvica on the island of Korčula. The grape belongs to the early ripening period and is characterized by consistently high yields. The flower is hermaphroditic; leaves are medium-sized, five-lobed and shallowly lobed. Bunches are medium-sized, conical, loose, with oval light green berries covered with a thin skin.

The variety is sensitive to drought, strong winds and susceptible to fungal diseases such as powdery mildew and downy mildew. The thin skin makes the berries prone to drying out in excess sun and sensitive to rot in high humidity. It is used primarily for the production of full-bodied white wines with balanced acidity and high sugar content.
