The French wine variety Poulsard is an old early-ripening technical variety. The bushes are sensitive to spring frosts. The clusters are small and loose, the berries are dark violet with thin skin. The variety is susceptible to major fungal diseases and is prone to flower shedding; it is used for the production of wines with high acidity.
The table hybrid form Poulsard was obtained in amateur breeding by crossing Talisman and Kishmish luchistiy. It is an early-ripening variety with large clusters weighing 600–1000 g. The berries are large, oval-shaped, white or yellow with a muscat flavor; the declared frost resistance is down to –23°C.
