The RG8 rootstock was obtained during a breeding program and is genetically related to the 41B × 110R combination. It is used as a base for grafting various grape varieties, including Vitis vinifera cv. Tempranillo.

The plant demonstrates high resistance to water shortage, maintaining increased rates of leaf gas exchange and hydraulic conductivity. The use of this rootstock contributes to the development of good vigor and yield of grafted varieties through the regulation of their water status.
