The variety is indigenous to northeastern Italy, originating from the natural crossing of an unknown variety with the Gouais blanc variety. The vine has medium vigor. The leaves are medium or large in size, three-lobed or almost entire, slightly divided, with a glabrous underside.
Clusters are small or medium, moderately dense, cylindrical or cylindrical-conical in shape. Berries are medium to large, round, sometimes slightly flattened, with alabaster-yellow colored skin. The variety belongs to the late or mid-late maturity group.
Ribolla gialla has medium but stable yields. The plant develops best on dry hilly soils and possesses drought tolerance, however, it is sensitive to fungal diseases, particularly Botrytis cinerea.
This wine grape variety is intended for the production of white wines, including dry wines with floral and fruity notes, sparkling wines, and orange wines with extended skin maceration.
