The variety is autochthonous to northeastern Italy and Slovenia, with a history traceable to the 13th century. Genetic studies have confirmed that it is not related to the Greek variety Robola. The vine possesses good vigor and stable yields and is well-adapted to cool, ventilated climates and hilly soils. In viticultural practice, long cane pruning of the Guyot type is often used.
The leaves of the variety are medium-sized, round, nearly entire or with three weakly defined lobes. Bunches are small or medium-small, cylindrical or pyramidal in shape, and range from semi-loose to compact. Berries are medium-sized, round or slightly disc-shaped, with thin, yellowish skin covered in bloom and juicy, sweet pulp.
The variety is susceptible to grey mold, especially during periods of high humidity, and shows sensitivity to flower abortion. It is used to produce dry white wines, sparkling wines, and wines with prolonged skin maceration.
