The variety is a hybrid of Sylvaner and Riesling. The plant is characterized by moderate to high vigor and sensitivity to drought. Due to its late ripening period, the variety requires planting in well-lit and warm sites; otherwise, there is a risk of incomplete berry ripening.

Rieslaner is prone to noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), which allows for the production of high-quality dessert wines. The berries are distinguished by a high sugar content and pronounced acidity. The flavor profile of the wines includes notes of exotic fruits, citrus, peach, apple, and spices.

The variety is used exclusively for winemaking, including the creation of dry and sweet wines in the Auslese, Beerenauslese, and Trockenbeerenauslese categories. The main plantings are concentrated in the wine-growing regions of Germany.
