The variety originated naturally in Germany as a result of a cross between the Gouais blanc variety and an unknown variety, presumably a descendant of Traminer. It belongs to mid-late varieties and is distinguished by late bud break, which allows it to avoid spring frosts.
Bunches of the variety are small or medium, weighing 80–100 g, most often cylindrical or cylindrical-conical. Berries are medium, round, greenish-white with a yellowish tint, with thin but firm skin. The flower is hermaphroditic.
The variety has good endurance to low temperatures, however, it is susceptible to fungal diseases, such as powdery mildew and grey mold. Wines produced from it are distinguished by high acidity, pronounced minerality, and the ability to age for a long time.
