The variety has ancient origins and is most common in the Macerata province. It is genetically related to the Verdicchio and Trebbiano varieties. It is intended exclusively for winemaking and is included in the composition of Colli Maceratesi controlled designation of origin wines.

It is a late-ripening variety, with harvest occurring at the beginning of October. The grapes prefer well-lit, windy sites with moderately fertile soil. It requires yield control to maintain product quality. Resistance to frost and fungal diseases, in particular to downy mildew, is rated as weak.

Wines from this variety have a pale straw color and an aromatic profile with notes of citrus, green apple, white pear, and apricot. They are characterized by high acidity, elegance, and aging potential.
