The variety originates from the northern part of the Rhône Valley in France. Bushes are characterized by medium vigor. The leaf is medium-sized, rounded, five-lobed. The cluster is small or medium, cylindrical or truncate-conical, dense. The berry is small or medium, round or slightly ovoid, amber-white in color.
Viognier is an early-ripening variety, maturing by the end of September. The variety is considered capricious: it has low resistance to powdery mildew, especially in humid climates, but exhibits good tolerance to summer drought. Yield is low.
Intended exclusively for wine production. Drinks from this variety are characterized by full body, softness, high aromaticity with notes of peach, apricot, mango, flowers, and musk, as well as potentially high alcohol levels with low acidity.
