Shallot Bulb

The shallot bulb is characterized by being multi-primordial, forming from 3 to 12 or more bulbs in a single cluster, and by typical small size with a weight of 20–50 g.

The average bulb weight ranges from 20 to 50 g, with values below 20 g classified as small and those above 50–60 g as large. These parameters directly influence propagation rates and the quality of marketable produce.

Bulb traits play a key role in the storage and cultivation technology of shallots. High storability is ensured by the density of the bulb itself and the condition of its outer dry scales. When assessing marketability, the uniformity of bulb size within a cluster is taken into account, which is an important varietal indicator in breeding.
