Prunus amygdalus x Prunus persica hybrids are susceptible to root-knot nematodes of the genus Meloidogyne and the root-lesion nematode Pratylenchus vulnus, which leads to gall formation on roots and reduced productivity.

For G×N rootstocks, the primary pathogens are Meloidogyne incognita, Meloidogyne javanica, and Meloidogyne arenaria. In susceptible forms, such as GF-677, infestation causes growth inhibition and general tree weakness. Resistant hybrids exhibit a hypersensitive response, where tissues around the nematodes undergo necrosis, isolating the parasite in the cortical parenchyma.

Breeding is focused on the pyramiding of resistance genes, with the RMia gene playing an important role in resistance to M. arenaria and M. incognita. Despite the existence of resistant clones, such as Garnem, they may remain susceptible to Pratylenchus vulnus, therefore rootstock selection requires taking into account the local nematode race composition in the soil.
