Apple Rust

Malus domestica (Suckow) Borkh.

A fungal disease of apple trees caused by heteroecious pathogens of the genus Gymnosporangium, which require juniper to complete their life cycle. It manifests as characteristic orange spots on leaves and the formation of aecia on their underside.

In the reference 106 varieties crop Apple, where this is mentioned in the description.

The primary causal agent of apple rust (Malus domestica) is the fungus Gymnosporangium tremelloides, which uses common juniper as its primary host. In global practice, the species Gymnosporangium yamadae and Gymnosporangium nidus-avis, which cause similar tissue damage, are also encountered.

Yellow-green circular spots form on the upper side of the apple leaves, which over time acquire a dark orange hue. Cone-shaped aecia form on the underside of the leaf, where spores mature, leading to premature defoliation and a decrease in plant productivity.
