The Corniale variety, also known as Pendoulier, is an old local variety common in the Languedoc and Provence regions. The tree is characterized by high vigor, medium size, and a fairly dense crown with distinctive pendulous branches.
In cultivation, the variety is more often found as single trees rather than large industrial plantings. It performs an important role as a pollinator for varieties such as Bouteillan, Tanche, and Lucques. The variety is considered demanding in terms of growing conditions, poorly tolerates severe drought, and is sensitive to infestation by the olive fruit fly.
