The Correggiolo di Montegridolfo variety represents local genetic material that has undergone selection, including clonal selection such as the ISTEA 45 clone. Genetic studies using microsatellites confirm its significant similarity or profile identity with the Frantoio variety.

The purpose of the variety is the production of olive oil, the yield of which is approximately 19–20%. In morphological descriptions for certification purposes, the key identification feature is the shape of the pit, which has a pointed apex and a pronounced narrowing or "beak". The variety is included in the genetic and sanitary certification programs of the Emilia-Romagna region.
