The Dolce Agogia variety is an ancient Italian variety from the Umbria region. The tree has medium to high vigor, upright branches, and medium-sized elliptic-lanceolate leaves. The fruits are oval-shaped and slightly asymmetrical. The variety is characterized by early fruit ripening and a late flowering period.
This variety is self-incompatible and requires the presence of pollinators. It is distinguished by good resistance to diseases, such as Verticillium wilt and olive knot, and is also cold-tolerant, but sensitive to drought and the olive fruit fly. The productivity of the variety is medium and is of an irregular, biennial nature.
In commercial practice, the name "Dolce" may indicate taste properties or belong to regional varieties, such as Triggiano Dolce or Dolce di Rossano. In food trademarks, this designation is often used for marketing descriptions of the mild flavor of olives of other well-known varieties.
