The variety is autochthonous to Catalonia, although genetic studies indicate signs of its allochthonous origin due to limited connections with other traditional varieties of the region. Specimens of the variety were recorded in the municipality of Marçà.

This variety is of interest for programs on the conservation of genetic diversity of olive trees. In scientific literature, it is mentioned mainly in the context of research on the chemical composition of oil, while detailed agronomic characteristics of the fruits are absent.
