The NASITANA variety takes its name from the municipality of Naso in the province of Messina and is historically cultivated in the Nebrodi Mountains. There is also a variety called Nasitana a frutto grosso, distinguished by larger fruit, while the base type is characterized by miniature olives.
The plant is self-sterile; the Carolea variety is often used for pollination. The variety possesses good resistance to cold, however, it exhibits vulnerability to olive knot caused by Pseudomonas savastanoi. At the same time, the Nasitana frutto grosso variety demonstrates reduced susceptibility to the olive fruit fly.
