The Moraiolo tree is characterized by medium or below-medium vigor, having an upright canopy and stiff, upward-directed branches. The variety belongs to the early maturity group and is characterized by high, regular yields. The primary purpose is the production of high-quality olive oil.
The plant is considered hardy and withstands cold, windy conditions well, but reacts poorly to drought or excessive moisture. The variety is susceptible to olive knot (Pseudomonas savastanoi), peacock spot (Spilocaea oleaginea), and sooty mold. A specific feature is the difficult healing of wounds after pruning.
Moraiolo is a self-incompatible variety. Suitable pollinators include varieties such as Pendolino, Morchiaio, and Lazzero. At the same time, the tree itself produces a large amount of pollen and can be an effective pollinator for other olive varieties.
