The name Petite Noire is applied to various local types of olive trees in France, especially in departments 06 and 07. The most well-known endemic variety, Petite Noire de Puget from the Puget-Théniers area, is considered a traditional genetic resource rather than a product of directed breeding.

Given that different local forms are hidden under this name, morphological characteristics may vary. The fruits are distinguished by their small size; they are used to produce high-quality olive oil and as table olives. The Petite Noire de Puget variety is characterized by cold tolerance, but sensitivity to drought.
