The PIANGENTE variety is distinguished by its vigorous growth and high crown density with downward-curving branches. The leaves are medium-sized, elliptical in shape. The fruits, weighing about 2.5 g, have an ovoid, slightly asymmetrical shape; as they ripen, their color changes from olive to black.
A mid-late ripening variety with a prolonged fruiting period, prone to biennial bearing. It is self-sterile but is considered an excellent pollinator for the Frantoio, Leccino, and Pendolino varieties.
Oil from the fruits of this variety is characterized by a high content of oleic and linoleic acids and possesses a medium-light fruity taste with balanced bitterness and pungency. Due to its aesthetic crown shape, the variety is often used in landscape design.
