The Petite Violette variety is a local autochthon of the Ardèche region in France. It is included in genetic collections, in particular the Porquerolles collection, and is considered an object of research in the field of genetic characterization of French olive tree resources.
The variety is used in olive production and is included in databases on the fatty acid and triacylglycerol composition of French olive oils. Cultivation is traditional in nature; the variety is often found in blends or specialized plantings in the region of origin.
