The Giarraffa variety (Sicily) is an autochthonous variety with a spreading, medium-density crown. The trees are characterized by low and irregular productivity and are sensitive to drought and fungal diseases. The fruits are large, weighing 10–15 g, elliptical in shape, with an early maturity group. It is used primarily as a table variety.
The Carolea variety (Calabria) is distinguished by vigorous upright growth. The variety has high and regular yields, is well adapted to mountainous conditions up to 800 m above sea level, and is resistant to cold and drought, while being sensitive to the olive fruit fly and peacock spot. It belongs to dual-purpose varieties: table and oil.
