The Pizzutella variety, also known as Pizziricò or Pizzutedda, is an autochthonous Sicilian olive variety. It is found primarily in the regions of Catania, Syracuse, Messina, Ragusa, and also in Calabria. Currently, the variety belongs to the category of genetic resources in need of conservation and is considered rare.
Trees of this variety are adapted to coastal slopes and tolerate humidity and windy conditions well. At the same time, the plant is characterized as quite fragile, requiring constant maintenance. Biological features of the variety include a low fruit set percentage, ranging from 2 to 15% depending on external factors and cultivation conditions.
