The variety is a local cultivar historically grown in the Ardèche region in the south of France. In the France Olive classification, it belongs to the category of minor varieties.

Olives of this variety are used in olive oil production both for creating blends and for obtaining single-varietal oil. The plant is adapted to the conditions of the northern borders of the Mediterranean basin.
