The tree has medium vigor and an upright crown shape. The leaves are elliptic-lanceolate in shape, narrow, and of medium length. The fruits are medium-sized, weighing 2–3 grams, and are distinguished by an elliptic, slightly asymmetrical shape. The variety name is associated with the reddish hue that the fruits acquire upon ripening.

The variety is early-maturing; harvesting begins at the end of October. The trees are hardy and adapt well to various soils, possessing high cold resistance. The variety is characterized by high and stable yields, however, it is self-incompatible and requires the presence of pollinators such as Leccino or Moraiolo.

The variety is sensitive to olive knot, leaf spot, and olive fruit fly. The oil obtained from the fruits is valued for its harmonious, delicate aromatic profile with notes of grass, almond, and artichoke. The variety is known by numerous regional synonyms, such as Caprigna, Ogliarola, Procanica, and others.
